Milwaukee Police Department Public Information Office May 2024 Update

While not an all-inclusive reflection of all of the items MPD PIO shared for the month, here is a sampling of the MPD initiatives, engagement efforts, and community safety information that was shared with the public on our social media platforms for the month of May.

MPD's priorities to communicate to our public are as follows:

Milwaukee Police Department Officer Shot

MILWAUKEE, WI - Yesterday, Sunday, May 5, 2024, at approximately 10:52 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers were deployed on foot in the area of the 1200 block of S. Cesar Chavez Dr. for Cinco de Mayo when a suspect fired shots, subsequently striking an officer. Officers did not return fire and no one else was struck.


The officer, a 29-year-old male with over one year of service, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
MPD has three persons of interest in custody and recovered two firearms; however, we are still seeking additional information. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or P3 Tips App.

This investigation is fluid and ongoing.

We want to thank the Milwaukee Fire Department for providing prompt medical attention to our officer.

The Milwaukee Police Department sends our thoughts and prayers to our officer and wish him a speedy recovery. The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) works tirelessly to keep our community safe. This highlights the impressive and dedicated work of Milwaukee Police District 4's Violent Crime Reduction Team (VCRT) to remove illegally possessed firearms in our community. #MKEPD
Milwaukee Police conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, on the 7300 block of W. Mill Rd., which resulted a warrant being obtained and a residence searched. 13 firearms and illegal narcotics were confiscated. The driver, a 33-year-old male and the passenger, a 41-year-old male, were taken into custody. Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. #StrongWork #VCRT!
