Special Investigations Division

MPD’s Special Investigation Division (SID) reduces gun violence by targeting the most violent offenders in coordination with Federal, State, and local partners in order to identify, locate, and arrest violent offenders, typically the 10% that are responsible for 90% of violent crime. SID also is responsible for arresting fugitives wanted for the most serious crimes to include homicide, non-fatal shootings, armed robbery, sexual assaults, etc. There are a total of approximately 46 sworn members assigned to SID, with an additional approximate 19 members assigned through SID to HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area).

These members are divided into shifts and cover these duties 365 days of the year, 7 days a week.
